Sometimes life is full of irony - Mr Lentini was a British prisoner of war

Sometimes life is full of irony.

During the WWII Mr Lentini was captured and held prisoner of war by the British. In the video below he tells us about some of his recollections. No wonder he was later prescribed SEDIMIDE (the Italian Thalidomide tablet) for his post traumatic stress disorder. The same tablets that his wife took for a few nights when she was suffering from insomnia.

I found it quite strange interviewing this man who had been considered our enemy who was fighting for his homeland, then interviewed by me an English Woman.

Maria Cristina's mother told me about how she was treated while Maria Cristina was growing up.
As I was interviewing the mother I could feel she was getting very emotional and that unfortunately I had stirred up a lot of unpleasant memories.
I did start to get quite worried because I could see that Mrs Lentini was getting herself extremely worked up and she has had several heart operations and now has a pacemaker.

A few months after going to stay with Maria Cristina and her family during their summer holidays in Jesolo, I went to stay with them in their home in Verona for a few days.

I also took the opportunity to meet and interview Maria Cristina's parents.

I have wanted to edit a documentary for ages and just haven't been able to get my head around exactly how to tell the story. because there are so many factors to talk about.
So in the end I decided to up load little interviews seperately. That way people don't have to sit and watch an hour long documentary, but can just watch the topic that interest them regarding Maria Cristina's life. It's a bit like easy zapping.

Breakfast in bed

I first met Maria Cristina Lentini when I was invited by Nadia Malavasi to the Tailonus Thalidomide conference in April 2009 in Padova. I was quite taken aback by Maria Cristina Lentina and her mother when I heard them both explain their personal life story thanks to the drug THALIDOMIDE.
Maria Cristina and I exchanged phone numbers and a few months later Maria Cristina invited me to go and join her and her family on holiday in Jesolo, near Venice. So off I went to find out how Maria Cristina and her family lived their life, how they coped, in order for people to really understand why her and her family deserve financial compensation for the damage the drug caused to her and her family members lives.

Taionlus

During my investigation of the present day situation of the Spanish thalidomide victims who had not been compensated financially. I went to London to take part in a demonstration with ICTA the International Contergan Thalidomide Alliance who had come to protest against Grünenthal the German Pharmaceutical company, responsible for the creation of the drug.
At the demonstration I met Nadia Malavasi who runs the Italian Thalidomide association TAIONLUS www.thalidomidicionlus.it
A year later Nadia invited me to go to her home town Padova in April 2009 for the 50th anniversary of thalidomide on the market.
